I recently had a chance to visit my hometown of Oroville, CA. Some of you will know exactly what I'm talking about, and some of you will find out some interesting tidbits of information.
You might be in Oroville, CA if:
* You wake up early and find coyotes outside your house (and no, it was not just my dog )
* You find many people are wearing underwear as tops
* You don't feel bad at all going around town with no makeup on at all.
* You look out to the horizon and all you see is yellow grass with brown spots (kind of like dalmation foothills)
* You feel embarrassed to ask at the store if there is any Oroville memorabilia for sale.
* You get to practice "Dodge the Cow-patty" on the family ranch road.
* You have oodles and oodles of time (and I mean oodles)
Any Orovillians out there are welcome to add their own in the comments section.
I love Oroville, even though I make fun of it a bit. It will always be home to me.

One thing that I never noticed about Oroville growing up, but I do now, is that there are very few sidewalks and even fewer street lamps. Zero city planning, it all just accidentally happened.
classic picture. sad enough, I've seen the same people ride that thing right into Taco Bell. It's a magical place, where anything could happen.
In college, as I was bringing friends to oroville I was giving a pep talk about it wasn't that bad...as I was talking we passed a car with a mattress being held on the top of the car by the people in the car and a man walking down lincoln with a boa constrictor around his neck...nice.
you know you're in Oroville when 60% of the men in town are not wearing shirts. I wonder where the beach is?
I love how you include the part about the coyotes just for my benefit Michelle :). Here is another one; you know that you are in Oroville when people think that Dr. Pepper chap stick is for eating only. :) Good times, glad that I saw you.
That couple also has a giant umbrella that they use when it rains. And, this is so sad, but they have children and they "give them rides" to school.
and I thought getting a ride in Old Nellie was embarrassing! :)
Oh man, Parley would love this picture. Once we saw something similar...2 "cowgirls" riding their horses in the middle of town, right by Ron's drive-in (i actually have a pic of that). Then another time we were lucky to witness a large lady in only a wifebeater and buttcrack pants fixing her broken down car...right in front of Kampong Gardens. Sadly, I do not have a picture of that. But the image is burned in my corneas...
Ok, really, we need to start an "Only in Oroville" blog...and we can all contribute to it...if I start it would you be on board? :)
It was a great town to grow up, back in the day. After leaving, my fiends always asked, if we had any traffic lights in Oroville. I haven't been there since my dad passed away. I would like to visit sometime soon.
